Sharing our story

The grant funds we received was of great helped in facilitating the program that we outlined in the application. We were able to divide the funds as intended into 3 things – Sports Development, Backyard Gardening and Financial Literacy Campaign. As a community organization, we believed in the power sports as important tool in gathering members both youth and adults together in fostering friendship and leadership skills. The Organic Backyard Gardening was first time in our community bringing together members who are passionate about growing their own sources of food during summer and making sure we follow Organic way of growing food. It was successful in a way that allow members to appreciate the fun and importance of knowing how to grow Vegetables in their own backyard making use of organic materials. Few of those seedlings were grown from seeds by some our ORFILCO officers to limit the cost instead of buying it from the garden centre. The Financial Literacy Campaign was a great start in bringing our members together to have some proper outlook in terms of managing their financial. This is one aspect that we are planning to continue and make sure members will have a deep understanding of proper budgeting and saving their hard earned money. Few of our members are new comers to Canada and with the present financial crisis that the world is experiencing right now or this past year, it is essential to be smart in setting your financial goals and working on it consistently. We did this event during our Cultural Day celebration in the Park (Idyllewild Park) with potluck, some Zumba Dancing and Parlor games. It was great event for everyone to enjoy.

We are very lucky to be one of the recipients and will be forever thankful and we look forward to participate again if will be given another chance.
