2024 Dufferin County Community Grant Recipient
$4,000

Sharing our story

Youth Activists Inc. created a short series of videos that actively demonstrated the current conversations amongst youth regarding the state of the environment and dramatic changes within the climate – while also educating them about the dangers posed by climate misinformation. The videos were advertised to youth aged 12-24 in the GTA, with a particular emphasis on reaching students in Dufferin-Caledon. The grant funding directly supported the county’s strategic priorities around climate change awareness, and in the campaign’s promotion directly communicated with the county’s Climate Engagement Speacialist. Through the campaign, we dedicated a web page on our website detailing the significance of being actually aware of the current state of our environment and the importance of being aware and vocal. Our campaign also gained local media attention in Dufferin-Caledon, highlighting both the counties’ support and the significance of the issue.

“As Project Coordinator, the grant received has immensely benefited the youth across the Dufferin-Caledon region. In a time where social media widely shapes the perception and knowledge curated in the minds of youth, our priority as an organization is to ensure that the facts being absorbed into the lives of youth in the Dufferin – Caledon are not rooted in coercion or suspicion – but rather a curiosity to advocate for themselves in the present day. We hope to give youth the avenue envision their future to look like – a future where youth came together without fear to fight for their rights and combat environmental injustice, and provide an opportunity to change their path forward.” – Olena Kania, Project Coordinator
