The project consisted of a 2 phase process. The first was to redo the hardscaping by having retaining walls installed to solve the water runoff issue due to the slope of the land. This was completed in partnership with Town of Grand Valley and was completed in time for the Remembrance Day service. The second phase was the planting of tulip bulbs ready for spring blooming, enjoyed by all as the Cenotaph is in the centre of the community. Due to the lateness of the season when the work was completed, the rest of the new plant material will be added in the spring and will consist of new shrubs and perennial plants that will provide all season beauty and interest.
This project was in part the result of the Town having to cut down 2 trees that were obscuring the visibility of the Cenotaph and the current shrubs being overgrown and needing replacement. The Cenotaph sits at a major crossroad in the centre of town and is a significant focal point for the community and visitors to the town.
The Remembrance Day service was recently attended by over a hundred people and the new design was greatly appreciated and received many positive comments.
