Our Rhythms and Reels purpose was to provide cultural enhancement and entertainment that would appeal to a diverse mix of participants of all ages.
The event started off the afternoon with a kid’s dance party where children and parents could dance, run and sing at the top of their lungs on a bright, warm August afternoon in the park. They could then visit with the Dufferin OPP officers and try on a bullet proof vest, check out the lights and sirens and explore the cruisers “bells and whistles”.
At 7pm sharp the first Drive In Movie began with the family-friendly “Secret Life of Pets 2” when everyone tucked into their cars or sat on lawn chairs to enjoy the movie under the stars. The second movie, “Spiderman; No Way Home” began at 9:30pm after a break to grab some food and snacks at the concession and to let some younger families go home to bed to make room for a more mature crowd.
By midnight we were all cleaned and packed up and ready for Leisa Way and the Wayward Wind Band with their “Early Morning Rain” concert the next day.
On the second day the cars began to pull into the park early to get a good spot for this late afternoon drive-in concert. There was time to enjoy some ice cream before the show that celebrated the life and legacy of the Canadian icon Gordon Lightfoot.
Some of the comments we heard from participants were “these events provided us with affordable, fun entertainment for my whole family, right in our backyard”, “Rotary should do this more often” and “we had so much fun, thank you!”
