In receiving the Dufferin County Community Grant in 2023, the Hockley Historic Community Hall and Church (HHCHC) was able to complete some ongoing operating repairs of our two buildings to ensure the long-term viability of our historic community gathering places. The financial impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic were significant to our organization as we had to close our buildings for over two years. Even though we reopened in June 2022, the Dufferin County Community Grant has helped with our financial recovery from the pandemic by allowing us to re-start projects which had to be put on hold. The grant money was put towards operating repairs (chimney repair, dishwasher replacement, church side door replacement, water softener replacement) and maintenance that we were unable to complete until now due to lack of funds. In 2023, we hosted community events once again (strawberry pancake breakfast in June, community euchre, community potluck dinners, and the upcoming community Christmas concert in December). Our facility rentals have also increased significantly in 2023. This grant has allowed us to continue to keep our buildings as a historic community hub which is part of Dufferin County and the surrounding area. Thank you, Dufferin County!
