Sharing our grant story

The summer of 2022 was a time of “dipping our toe in the water” to see what entertainment we could bring to our community after two years of difficulty.

We wondered early in the year, when the planning process began, what surprises the pandemic would deal to us and how we could plan events that could move forward even if restrictions were in place. We soon decided that the best plan would be to hold an outdoor event and…did we ever!!!

Bands Brews and BBQ in Fiddle Park was a great day of diverse musical offerings and entertainment for kids of all ages. A Sharon, Lois and Bram Sing-a-long with Sharon and Randi started off the day with a great show that had families singing and dancing along to well-loved songs and some great new ones. Then local magician, Steve Baker wowed the crowd with an incredible magic show followed by the Dufferin Rising Star contest winners; Black Atoms, Maddie & The Mattlocks. Josh Oatman, a talented local musician entertained after he wrapped up his face painting and balloon-twisting booth. We were then transported to our “happy vacation spot” when the incredible reggae band Richie C and the Greatness band started to play. Super talented Mike Shotton and the Pop Machine then kicked it up a notch and rocked the night away on the gorgeous August evening.

While the bands played there were also a wide variety of great vendors selling their goods. There were crafts, jewelry, home décor and health products and also interactive booths for kids to try science experiments. One of the favourites was the Warrior Martial Arts exhibit where students demonstrated their skills to appreciative audiences. Of course, there were also a delicious variety of edible treats to enjoy!

The generous support of the Dufferin Community Grant enabled us to offer free admission to all events at the park, which resulted in a diverse and appreciative crowd that enjoyed an afternoon and evening of music food and fun.
