Sharing our grant story
Our 2022 Dufferin County Community Grant afforded us the opportunity to build on a program launched last year to provide Dufferin County Youth aged 8 – 17 with the exciting opportunity to be express their creative voices, and engage with the local community.
Twenty-two young people from across Dufferin County entered the 2022 Word of Mouth Monologue Competition. They filmed themselves delivering the monologue of their choice from the list we provided. They then submitted their performances online through our website. The public was engaged to vote for their favourite performances, resulting in an ultimate “fan favorite” award. We also awarded one young participant the “bravery” award for being the first to submit her video.
A panel of three judges (Noni Thomas, of Noni Thomas Music, Kristen Gamache of LP Stage Productions, and Germaine Ransome of Inspiration Republic), deliberated and scored all of the performances. This resulted in a total of 12 finalists.
Ultimately, on November 26, these twelve finalists performed for the judges live, after which we crowned the winners of the 2022 Word of Mouth Monologue Competition!
Among our 22 participants this year were many young people who had never been on a stage before. Sixteen of our contestants were aged 8 – 12. We also happily welcomed back a few contestants who tried out for last year’s competition—areal testament to the value they have found in being part of the experience. They all demonstrated such gratitude for the opportunity, and such commitment to the process.
The full competition event will be live-streamed on December 23, 2022, on our YouTube channel.
Thank you for your continued support that helps us deliver quality programs to Dufferin’s youth.
