Sharing our grant story

Since receiving the Dufferin County Community Grant, TeleCheck has been able to work towards upgrading our communications system with upgraded cell phones for staff and by also working through the implementation process of a VoIP communication system with
Headwaters Health Care Centre.

Working with Headwaters Health Care Centre in building this communication system will allow for increased collaboration and will provide much needed follow up for patients being discharged into the community.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, TeleCheck transitioned from an in-office call centre to a service where our staff and volunteers work primarily remotely in the community. With this enhanced communication system our team will have the ability to operate their phones with the same ease and access as if they were at their desk in the office. This also allows for greater interconnectivity that affords our team members the ability to have face to face conversations whilst improving our interactions and response time to members receiving calls.

Many of our members experience poor physical, mental and/or emotional health; are socially vulnerable, marginalized or experience isolation; and are frequent visitors to the ER or primary care. TeleCheck calls have been described by many members as “ a life line” as our staff and volunteers provide an opportunity for members to be heard which increases social connectedness, well-being and a pathway and linkage to local community support services.

Supporting older adults to age in their own homes and communities for as long as possible, commonly referred to as “ageing in place,” is essential and TeleCheck’s daily calls allow people to remain in their home with increased safety and more confidence.
