Jennifer Payne Named Executive Director of Headwaters Communities In Action

The HCIA Leadership Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Payne as Executive Director of Headwaters Communities In Action, effective April 1, 2020.

Jennifer has over 25 years of experience working with stakeholders to tackle problems with innovative solutions and strategies. She brings a diverse background that includes experience in fundraising, program and project management, strategic planning as well as non-profit volunteering. She is also passionate about environmental causes, local food and farming, community-building, family, and music. Jennifer has her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of New Brunswick, Saint John.

Jennifer’s dedication to this organization has been proven, both as co-creator and Coordinator of the Farm to School Programs and as a passionate and dedicated volunteer, through her work with Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance (HFFA). Jennifer Payne succeeds Shirley Boxem who has been the Executive Director of HCIA since 2013. Throughout her tenure, Shirley has built a strong backbone organization, developed meaningful community partnerships and led outstanding community projects from inception through ongoing execution.

Shirley has positioned HCIA as a well-connected and effective community champion. Jennifer Payne had this to say about her new role, “I’m excited to dig into the great work of this outstanding organization and honoured to be given the opportunity to carry forward the work of my friend Shirley, to steward and build on the wisdom, strong relationships and community connections that she has so expertly cultivated over the years. I look forward to the guidance of the LC, to getting to know our partners and funders, to supporting our projects and to exploring how I can best serve our communities in this new role.”
