HCIA TRAILS:
What a winter for skiing!
Headwaters (and particularly Dufferin county) drivers will be none too happy to see the snow receding this spring. There were more snow days and road closures this year than most of us can recall. Buses cancelled again?? Happy kids indeed. As well the regions skiers enjoyed (and are still enjoying) the elongated season which may continue until the end of March. The Headwaters trails were a magnet for visitors and residents alike as reflected by Mono Nordic’s Family Day in Monora Park on February 22.

What’s new in Food?
Well what isn’t new in Food? The local food movement is active in Headwaters and the outputs from the Food Summit continue to evolve. Note that the final Food Summit report is now available on the HCIA site. As yet to be posted is the executive summary, which Theresa Sauren of Dufferin Biz has recommended be drafted in the form of an info graphic. Stay tuned for this lively output and read more to find out about the Education Literacy and Access group.
Be sure to check out A Taste of Maple taking place from March 28 – April 13, 2014 at locations across the Headwaters region.

Grow A Shared Garden
Community Partners: Orangeville Food Bank stretches outside of traditional service model.
The Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance has as one of its volunteer/supporting organizations, the Orangeville Food Bank. At one recent meeting of the Education Literacy and Access group, we were updated on an exciting new initiative that has been led by Cindy Preville. Cindy is a Food Bank client who has made incredible strides in recent months by producing her own fresh food and freezing and preserving it to sustain her and her son through the winter months. Now there are plans for a shared garden, learn more and find out how to participate.
