Westminster is committed to addressing food insecurity in Orangeville. In addition to the emergency food cupboard, garden project, community and shelter meals, and partnerships with community organisations, Westminster has relaunched a recognized, appreciated, and effective program of widespread appeal, Saving Thyme – easy recipes that save you time and money. Rogers TV Dufferin-Caledon has also featured Saving Thyme in its programming. While the intended audience is people who are food insecure in Dufferin, the Saving Thyme videos are also reaching a larger demographic of people who need thrifty and time efficient meal plans for their families.
The generous Dufferin County Community Grant, in addition to facilitating a monthly Saving Thyme video, provides meal kits to feed four families of four distributed through our community partners.
Viewership and engagement on the Westminster Orangeville YouTube channel is strong.
- Saving Thyme: Freezer Pickles and Jar Salads filmed at the Orangeville Agricultural Fall Fair has 104 views. @colleenstevens4632 says “We enjoyed your pickles Margo!”
- Saving Thyme: Tune Casserole published in December has 87 views. @doriebel4718 says “Margot you make me …that was a great video. I wanted to jump up and make a tuna fish casserole.”
- Saving Thyme Xmas Edition: Turkey Dinner Casserole published in December has 115 views.
Westminster purchased a professional food processor with this grant. The first delicious result of this kitchen tool is a nutritious pesto made from herbs and vegetables grown in the Westminster garden.
Westminster is grateful for the financial support and vote of confidence for its food program.
