Sharing our story
Dufferin Arts Council, via an arts community consultation, identified a gap in our arts community, i.e., the lack of a central organization that could reflect, support, and lobby on behalf of all the arts in Dufferin. Our prime objective was to grow our Arts HUB model and function towards being more comprehensive and supportive.
The impact of the funds was to allow us to focus on expanding our vision and developing new resources as a base for rebuilding our membership. In 2025, some bugs and blips in the arts directory were ironed out, as well as new opportunities discovered. The model itself inspired members of the arts community to join our board and to help develop a plan to bring DAC to the next level. For this year, we were able to support and partner with two key arts organizations: Dufferin Film Festival and Streams Community Arts Hub by guiding funding in their direction. We supported DFF with a partnership letter enabling them to obtain funding from the Dufferin Community Foundation. With Streams, we have hosted meetings there and advised our members that DAC’s cherished Artists in the Schools program is being activated by Streams. We increased our ability to support students with more scholarships in 2025. DAC has also guided artists towards workshops and seminars that benefit them.
“Quotes from program participants or beneficiaries: “Some of our volunteers and artists are former recipients of your scholarship.” Streams Community Arts Hub “This is a most amazing opportunity – thank you so much Dufferin Arts Council!” – Beckie Morris, recipient of The Reed T Cooper Bursary – Dufferin’s only bursary for mid-career artists. “
