Sharing our story

The Dufferin Community Grant provided the newly formed Joyful Sound Gospel Choir—Dufferin County’s first community gospel choir—with the essential funds needed to purchase our own sound system. This investment has empowered us to continue to share uplifting, inspiring music throughout the region and will support meaningful community engagement for years to come.

Our project focused on acquiring high-quality sound equipment to strengthen the mobility and outreach of our 40-member choir and band. Having our own sound system allows us to perform at a wider range of events, smaller venues and locations across Dufferin County, making gospel music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. The improved audio quality builds confidence in our performers and helps create engaging musical experiences for both performers and audiences.
Since receiving the grant, we have used the equipment during weekly rehearsals and at community events including the 2025 Orangeville Blues & Jazz Festival, a Regional Worship Event held at Orangeville Christian School on October 25, 2025, and Compass Community Church on November 16, 2025. Our participation in the 2025 Blues & Jazz Festival was especially meaningful. Festival founder Larry Kurtz, in an interview with The Orangeville Citizen, remarked: “Looking at the level of talent locally that we had, it seems like we stepped up our game this year… Having the [Joyful Sound Gospel Choir] in the Tweedsmuir Church this year for the little Saturday Service – that was cool.”

Audience members frequently describe our music as “beautiful and uplifting” and “joyful and energetic,” while choir members speak of the “emotional and soul-felt connection to the music.” Thanks to this grant, the Joyful Sound Gospel Choir can continue enriching the cultural, faith and musical landscape of Dufferin County.
