NEW DATE: HCIA Annual General Meeting
Wednesday October 28 - 5:30-8pm
Register now!
Join your fellow engaged citizens to celebrate HCIA’s accomplishments and help set priorities for the coming year. This is our opportunity to review our progress, celebrate, recognize key contributors who make a difference in our communities, and set our sights to the year ahead. If that’s not enough, come and be treated to a delicious spread of local food! At last years AGM, participants brainstormed on emerging issues in the community and the status of HCIA current portfolios. The inputs helped us to draft the Community Well-Being Survey - the outputs of which are now being analyzed. Some new priorities and feedback will be ready for discussion this year. What projects will they inspire? Bring a friend and your ideas – even half-baked ones are welcome (ideas, that is)!
When: Wednesday October 28, 5:30pm to 8pm Where: Lord Dufferin Centre, 32 First Street, Orangeville 519-941-8433
HCIA is pleased to act as a hub and incubator for community-minded people; a place where ideas turn into community action.

Farm to School is Back to School
October is Farm to School Month, and what better time to kick off a new school year for the HFFA Farm to School pilot programs? The Education Workshops continue to be offered to schools in Dufferin County and Caledon. A small number of fully subsidized workshops are available on request, and for schools with the funds, we can now meet the growing demand for a per-workshop fee of $285 (single class). Interested teachers should visit hffa.ca/farmtoschool/ for information and fill out a request form.
The Local Food Club has officially started up again too this month. Some of our program schools from last year have not been able to participate this year due to the continuing teachers’ labour action, so we have a bit more capacity for new schools that have been on our waiting list.
We are currently in need of volunteers for packing days, on the last Wednesday of each month at Primrose Elementary School (our current centralized packing site for all schools). We always have lots of fun, packing and delivering healthy, local food bundles for Headwaters families. Join us!
If you are interested in having your school participate or you would like to volunteer, please contact the Program Coordinator at food@headwaterscommunities.org or call Nicole at 1-416-884-8696.

From Our Friends
The Doors Opened on September 12 in Grand Valley - Connecting Seniors and Family Members to Health and Service Providers
The Open Door seniors event held at the Arena was a well-attended success. Over 40 residents participated in the event which provided Grand Valley residents with valuable information on services for seniors and the family and friends who support them. Many thanks go to the volunteers of the walking group led by super senior Linda Rowe who provided a wonderful lunch for all. Mayor Steve Soloman provided his support to the event and was impressed by the attendance of both residents and service providers.

Be Vigilant about Distracted Driving
A safe community is a good community. It is our pleasure to support our local Dufferin OPP by helping get the word out to citizens about important messages they have to share. In this space we will share messages directly from the OPP communications team.
So far this year, 41 deaths have been attributed to distracted driving on OPP-patrolled roads and the number of collisions caused by distracted drivers is up twenty percent compared to this time last year.
