FOOD ENTREPRENEURS: Preserving our heritage; creating our future
On February 25th, 2015 at Monora Park, over one hundred and eighty potential and established entrepreneurs came together with local groups and experts to hear, see and find out how food entrepreneurship is done is Headwaters. The day was a resounding success by all accounts. The event was led by Georgian College who are working to make culinary entrepreneurship part of their offering across campuses. The College partnered with the County of Dufferin/Dufferin.Biz, Headwaters Food and Farm Alliance, Headwaters Communities in Action, Town of Orangeville Economic Development and Area Small Business Enterprise Centre and the Downtown Orangeville BIA to organize the event.
Twenty successful local entrepreneurs
The day offered so much, but was grounded in the showcase marketplace with over twenty successful local entrepreneurs set up to allow attendees the opportunity to meet, talk, learn, sample and buy from them. Expert and success panels alternated so that everything from food safety to finance to what success looks like was laid out for those considering embarking on a food entrepreneurship journey. Local celebrity chef Adam Ryan prepared a delicious local winter lunch with hearty flavourful sandwiches and a vegetarian stew. Keynote speakers Tony Dutra, owner of Woolwich Dairy and Tom Deans, author and owner of Hockley Hills Coffee Company took the conversation to a new level as they talked about their successful entrepreneur journeys.
